Texting was supposed to make communication easier. Faster. More efficient. A quick way to say what you need to say without the awkward silences of a phone call. And for the most part, it delivers on that promise. But then there are the other texts. The ones that arrive with no context, no warning, and absolutely no logical explanation. The ones that make you put your phone down, stare at the ceiling for a moment, and then pick it back up because you need to read it again to make sure it's real.
This list is entirely made of those texts.

I think you kind of have to be a (secret) comedic genius, to make some random text message interaction so funny. It requires a sender who is either deeply unself-conscious, operating on a frequency the rest of us can't access, or simply having a day that has taken them somewhere beyond the reach of normal human behavior. The mom who responds to "I'm gay" with "I know that silly, come out to the car" is a person who had already processed this information and was simply waiting for the logistics. The neighbor who texts "I'm gonna drop some heavy stuff on the floor, it'll probably roll around for a while" is a person who believes in transparency and we respect that.

Then there's the communication skills exam reply of "ight", a single word that somehow says everything about that relationship dynamic in a way no full sentence ever could. The person who ended a conversation with "I'll try my best to leave you alone, I'll block you on everything, have a nice life" and then immediately followed with "u want me to come get u?" is a person who contains multitudes.
And the dad who got sent home from his birthday dinner in an Uber, prompting his wife to text "You let him have 3 margaritas?? I gotta deal with him now", that's a family with a whole established system and everyone knows their role.

What makes these texts so genuinely wonderful is that they're all completely human. Messy, funny, loving, chaotic, barely coherent, and somehow exactly right. The barbecue squirrel. The washing dishes with tears. The neighbor who just wants someone to suffer with them to sad music. Nobody planned any of this. That's the whole point. Read them slowly. They deserve it.
